Joy Copper will discuss how she designed a visual novel for digital bibliotherapy, a project for which she won a Calvert Award for excellence in undergraduate research (https://www.library.unlv.edu/award).

From Joy:
“At its core, a visual novel shares similarities with Choose Your Own Adventure books where the decisions of the player/reader determine the direction of the story. My project is intended to be used as a supplementary bibliotherapy tool for children experiencing socioemotional difficulties that are not classified as needing clinical intervention. The intention is to introduce children to healthy coping mechanisms and teach them about the importance of emotional and mental health. The student playing will navigate the story from a first-person perspective to create an immersive experience.”
