March Mini-Conference 2024: Building Character

March 29 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Bringing games into library and educational spaces is an excellent tool for character building, from character creation in tabletop roleplaying games to developing social and emotional learning (SEL) skills through play and community. The Games & Gaming Round Table (GameRT) of the American Library Association is hosting a one-day mini conference dedicated to the intersection of character building and the many facets of librarianship. We’ve gathered presentations from librarians and gaming scholars in a variety of fields to examine all aspects of character building, whether the focus is on readers’ advisory, collections, programming, game design, accessibility, or education. So gather your party and get ready for an adventure as we delve into this vast and multifaceted gaming cosmos.

The conference will consist of five sessions from 10:00 A.M.- 6:00 P.M. CST on March 29th, 2024. The event is virtual and free for anyone to attend. If you can’t attend, all sessions will be recorded and posted for later viewing in the ALA GameRT Twitch library.
