On behalf of the Games & Gaming Round Table (GameRT) of the American Library Association (ALA), the Program Planning Committee is sponsoring a call for presentation proposals on topics that intersect with gaming and librarianship. The President’s Program serves to connect the library community with new and innovative ideas about games and libraries. |
The Committee welcomes papers on any gaming-related topic. Suggested topics may include, but are not limited to: Library programming Collection best practices Running RPGs for kids Gaming literacy Library outreach and gaming Connecting games to skills/standards Presenters of accepted proposals may be invited to present their work at the GameRT President’s Program at ALA’s 2020 Annual Conference. In addition, the presentation documents will be shared in the GameRT ALA Connect forum and will be available on the GameRT website. Call for Proposal Timetable: Timely submission of the proposal is critical to the success of the program. The procedures and timetable enumerated below will apply. Deadline for Proposals By January 31, 2020, authors should submit a one to two page proposal for their presentation including the title, a short description of the topic(s) to be addressed, the approach that will be taken, and a survey of existing literature on the subject (title and abstract of a maximum of the five most relevant papers/texts). Proposals, along with authors’ contact information, should be submitted via e-mail to GameRT via this Google form. Acceptance of Proposals By February 7th, 2020, the Committee will make a decision on all proposals. The number of accepted proposals might be limited. The Committee will contact authors regarding their proposals. Monitoring Progress A Committee member will be assigned to work with each presenter to monitor the presentation’s progress within the specified timelines. Interim drafts, based on a schedule proposed by the author, may be requested. By March 15th, 2020, a first draft of the completed presentation (including an abstract of no more than 200 words) will be submitted to the assigned Committee member for review and comments. By March 31, 2020, all comments on the first draft will have been forwarded to the author. Completion Date By April 30th, 2020, the Committee must receive the completed presentation with a 200-word abstract. Each presentation will be screened by the Committee to assure its quality of exposition and relevance to the call. The Committee may require further rewriting of the presentation to bring it to an acceptable standard. Approving the Completed Presentation By May 31, 2020, all presenters must have responded to any further screening comments/suggestions from the Committee. Accepted presentations will be published in the GameRT ALA Connect forum and will be available on the GameRT website. The Committee reserves the right to not publish a submission. Presenting at the Conference Authors may be invited to present at the GameRT President’s Program at ALA’s Annual Conference scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2020. Each invited presenter who accepts the invitation will be required to attend the President’s Program to make their presentation. These presenters will be contacted in advance of the conference. Submission Guidelines Presentations must be 30-90 minutes and relate to gaming practices, programs, and collections in libraries. The GameRT Program Planning Committee looks forward to receiving proposals in response to the call and is happy to respond to inquiries from interested parties.
