International Game Month 2026

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first ever International Game Day! Help GameRT celebrate this year by registering for International Games Month 2026. Be sure to register before the end of September to be eligible for receiving physical games!

How IGM Started

National Games Day was started by Jenny Levine and Scott Nicholson in 2007. This free event grew out of an idea to attempt to set a world’s record for the number of people playing the same game at the same time at libraries around the world. National Games Day became International Games Day (IGD) in 2012, International Games Week (IGW) in 2017, and finally International Games Month (IGM) in 2022. It has grown to include events on all seven continents. Even today, it is still raising awareness of games and gaming in libraries to publishers and the public. This event has become a valuable way for libraries and their communities to join together and engage in play each year.

Visit the IGM History page for more stories and stats from previous years.

Getting Involved

After registering, check out the compilation of events and resources the IGM committee has put together. These resources will be updated as the committee has time between now and November, so be sure to check for updates. Promotional materials are available to help you market your specific IGM programs, including updated logos!

Thank You, Sponsors!

Every year, companies, publishers, and creators support libraries across the world by committing to giving away copies of their games and/or providing coupon codes to their web store for participating libraries. If you’re curious, check out the list of sponsors from previous years. This year, there are several new sponsors and the committee is still working to secure more. An updated list and more information on each sponsor can be found on the IGM Sponsor page.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, listed below:
