Several new library gaming initiatives have hit the news recently, standing out as great examples of innovative librarians embracing gaming as a service to the community! Here are a few of the highlights:
Manchester, CT: Over 130 tabletop board games have been made available for checkout, most of which came through donations. The Library has also embraced Meetup as a way of bringing gamers together, and connected with a local gaming store that helps lead the sessions.
Waseca, MN: Helping others is the name of the game with Extra Life, a charity that supports the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals via sponsored gaming marathons, and the Waseca Public Library joined in on this year’s drive, raising almost $1,300 for a local hospital.
Portage, WI: The Portage Public Library unveiled a new circulating video game collection incorporating both new and older titles. Chris Baker, the teen services librarian, even posed for a great picture to announce the new initiative!
