Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) is a UK charity which aims to improve children’s educational outcomes and foster their social development by introducing them to the game of chess. They teach chess in over 300 schools whilst supporting the game in 400 more, and organise a world-leading chess event, the London Chess Classic. Working exclusively in the state sector, they prioritise areas of the greatest deprivation, giving every child the chance to realise their full potential.
CSC also run a growing network of chess clubs in libraries, junior centres and even prisons. Believing that chess and libraries are an excellent fit they are providing free chess sets to 50 publically funded libraries in the UK as part of International Games Week. In addition CSC are able to support libraries who wish to set up chess clubs by training staff or connecting libraries with their network of tutors.
